THE IOLANI STAGE BANDS IN CONCERT WITH JAZZ TRUMPET MASTER BOBBY SHEW

An afternoon of music featuring three student jazz big bands and the Tam-Young Jazz Combo from ‘Iolani School. This final performance of the school year will feature Jazz trumpet master Bobby Shew performing with the groups. Trumpet icon Bobby Shew is a mentor and inspiration to both professional and amateur players worldwide. He has performed in the big bands of Tommy Dorsey, Woody Herman, Buddy Rich, Bill Hollman, Maynard Ferguson, Oliver Nelson, and Toshiko Akiyoshi, and as a featured soloist with Art Pepper, Bud Shank, the Horace Silver Quintet, and Frank Strazzeri-Sam Most. In addition to being a sideman, Bobby also became a leader recording many of his own albums, including Outstanding In His Field, which was nominated for a Grammy. Bobby also did a great deal of studio work, including TV shows like Hawaii 5-O, Streets Of San Francisco, Bob Newhart, Mary Tyler Moore, Midnight Specials, Don Kirschner Rock Concert, Happy Days, Laverne And Shirley, and Eight Is Enough. His work on soundtracks includes Grease I and II, Rocky I and II, Six-Pack, The Muppet Movie, The Drivers, and Taxi. In addition to a busy performing and private teaching schedule, Bobby spends a considerable amount of time actively involved in the educational system, conducting clinics and master classes all over the world. Bobby is also the co-designer/developer of SHEW model Yamaha 6310Z & 8310Z trumpets and 6310Z & 8310Z flugelhorns. All ages are permitted with a ticket.
